Skincare for men

It is not an uncommon phenomenon that sometimes, if not done the right way, razors can leave your skin red with rashes. Shaving is an effective form of exfoliating that removes the topical dead cell layer and shows the revived skin underneath in the process of cutting out your hair.

Since the blade is blunt, a lot of people can experience sharp hair or thicker hair growing after shaving but that is only your natural hair that was cut bluntly.

Soon after you shave, your skin is refreshed and soft since the dead skin cells have been removed, but it is now exposed to all the factors of the environment that might make it dull and dry.

You have to concentrate on moisturising your skin so that the hydration is locked in it, thus, protecting it from pollutants in the air.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind after you’ve shaved your beard:

Exfoliate your skin

If you have large pores, you are most likely to get blackheads quite quickly since your beard has been shaved off. You need to gently exfoliate your skin from time to time. Once a week is ideal. Use gentle chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid or mandelic acid.

Warm shower

Warm showers open the pores and make your skin feel relaxed. Shave while taking a warm shower as the water will open the pores wider. After shaving, you can apply a warm cloth against your skin to help it relax and moisturise.

Hydration is key

Use a cream-based moisturiser instead of a gel to hydrate your skin. For a long time, your face has been covered under your beard and now that it is exposed, you need to give it more water to help it hydrate. Apply hyaluronic acid serum before moisturisation or opt for creams that have ceramides, humectants and occlusives.
