The finalists that will compete for this year’s Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Creators Award – Suppliers Award: Ingredients & Formulation were announced last night at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ 6th Annual Awards Night Ceremony. The gala was held at Sony Hall in Times Square following the opening day of NYSCC’s Suppliers’ Day.

The CEW Beauty Creators Suppliers Award: Ingredients & Formulation, presented by NYSCC, honors natural and/or synthetic ingredients or formulations that demonstrate new technology and innovation. Submissions can only be entered by a supplier. 

The eight finalists include components from BASF, Clariant, Croda, Geltor, IFF/Lucas Meyer, Silab and Symrise. Croda has two ingredients on the short list for this year’s award.

FINALIST INGREDIENTS

BASF Corporation – Seanactiv
The eye area is the first part of the body to reveal visible evidence of fatigue, stress, unhealthy lifestyle, and aging. Dark circles, crow’s feet and dull skin are widely perceived to be telltale signs. By leveraging the power of fucoidan, Seanactiv has a quick and positive effect on diminishing both signs of eye fatigue and aging of the eye area.  Seanactiv contributes to the reduction of dark circles and helps to reduce wrinkles. The sustainable algae extract furthermore supports the improvement of the overall skin luminosity of the eye area.

Clariant Corporation – Berashades

Considering consumer’s current demand for multifunctional cosmetic products that are also natural and sustainable, Berashades is a line of naturally colored clays that can be mixed in order to create more than 3.000 colors with proven efficacy for color cosmetics formulations. The ready-to-use active ingredients are an 100% natural alternative to synthetic pigments while also addressing multifunctional proven benefits, as they hydrate the skin while protecting and maintaining the skin barrier function, in addition to promoting firmness. Berashades are also sustainable, as they are responsibly harvested from Brazilian biomes: after clay extraction, native seeds are planted to support soil recovery and land restoration.

Croda Inc – ChromaPur and Nutrinvent Balance

Developed from a patented technology, ChromaPur CV2 & CV7 are high quality Carboxylated Cellulose Nanocrystals, converted into a micron sized powder with a unique surface structure and morphology. Therefore, as 100% natural, biodegradable, vegan cellulose powders with exceptional versatile properties, they provide a sustainable and functional alternative to plastic microbeads and help to tackle plastic pollution concerns. ChromaPur CV2 & CV7 offer numerous benefits; they deliver a blurring effect on the skin and a luxurious appearance from make-up products, making them ideal for various skin care and colour cosmetic applications. 

Plant derived and vegan suitable, Nutrinvent Balance is a novel encapsulate ensuring the targeted and controlled delivery of actives to the scalp to effectively reduce sebum production, with a consumer-perceivable improvement in scalp oiliness, for hair that looks and feels cleaner for longer.  Salon evaluations demonstrated the possibility offered by Nutrinvent Balance to space wash cycles helping consumers reducing their water consumption.   

Geltor, Inc. – Elastapure

A key Element of Skin, elastin brings the gift of elasticity through its unique ability as a protein to stretch and recoil. Through Elastapure, Geltor has unlocked the world’s only pure human elastin ingredient for personal care, available in unmatched purity and biosimilarity to native human elastin for the first time. The ingredient is available in 2% solution and powder form, with demonstrated antioxidant properties and high uniformity and purity compared to animal-derived elastins.

IFF/Lucas Meyer Cosmetics –  Anti-Glyc-Aging Zinc Screen

Anti-Glyc-Aging Zinc Screen is inspired by consumer demand for multifunctional mineral sunscreens. By delivering a theoretical SPF 30 and harnessing the photoprotective properties of pink algae by including IBR-SolAge to fight glycation-induced aging, we offer a complete shield from UV aggression. This soft, light-textured formula is sheerly tinted to minimize the whitening effect of the non-nano zinc oxide. It has a smooth matte finish yet delivers hydration to the skin due to inclusion of Heliofeel 22 MB, shea butter, and propanediol. To answer the challenge for naturality of sunscreens, the Anti-Glyc-Aging Zinc Screen has a natural origin content of 98.55%, with no controversial ingredients for a consumer-friendly INCI list.

Silab Inc – PEPTILIUM

They intensified after 42 days of treatment and were confirmed by a subjective evaluation.

Symrise, Inc. –  SymHair Thermo

SymHair Thermo is sustainably-sourced, 100% natural, vegan heat protection hair care active sourced from mushrooms. It is  infused with hyaluronic acid and polysaccharides sourced from mushrooms. Its hair care benefits include: proven efficacy to protect hair from heat damage (flat ironing, blow-drying, etc.); silicone replacement for hair care formulations; and maintains style longer, especially in high humidity.

The award winner will be announced at the CEW Beauty Awards program on Nov. 11.
