TikToker suffers from ptosis after getting botox for migraines

A woman was left blinded in one eye for a month after a botched Botox treatment which left her looking like “a villain from a video game”.

Shana Oakley, from North Carolina, USA, was left with ptosis, a condition where the upper eyelid droops. She was unable to see from her right eye for over a month after having Botox on 20th January 2022 .

Although having since made a full recovery, her right eye was left lopsided six weeks after the Botox injection.

Shana, 30, says her neurologist carried out the procedure to treat migraines.

However, despite receiving the medical botox from a trained doctor it went horribly wrong as she could not see out of her right eye for a month.

And despite having had both cosmetic and medical botox before, Shana admitted the treatment administered by a beautician is less painful and nothing has gone wrong before.

She said: “I had a lot of comments from people who got ptosis after having medical Botox done by a neurologist.

“I was thinking neurologists would be safer, but it doesn’t matter the level of education they have it just matters how often they inject people and cosmetic injectors do it way more often than neurologists do.”

However, TikTok users likened Shana to a ‘Villain in a videogame’ and although Shana agreed she did admit she will miss the eyepatch.

After being able to relate to the TikTok users comments about her eye appearance, she certainly did not want to go through the condition again.

“It took a month for me to be able to see clearly and like a month and a half to look normal,” Shana explained.

However, the episode has not put off Shana from having cosmetic Botox again.

She said: “I will for sure do cosmetic Botox again but I’m not sure about medical because I had a ton of comments from people telling me to never let a neurologist inject my face, only a cosmetic injector.

“I started cosmetic after doing the medical and noticing I needed like a cosmetic touch up from the medical to even my forehead if that makes sense.”

She also believes the treatment hurts far more when a neurologist performs it than when a cosmetic injector does it, she explained: “I noticed that it hurts more when the neurologist does it than when the cosmetic injector does so it makes sense that cosmetic injectors definitely know what they are doing more.”

And when Shana posted a video about her ptosis on her TikTok page (@shanaoakley91) it got a huge 1.7 million views with people seeing the funny side, now she’s thankfully recovered, but also wanted to highlight the condition ptosis.
