If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to experiment with the latest beauty trends, injectables such as Botox or fillers may be the right option for you. Injectables are everywhere, there’s no shame in it. What used to be available only to high-profile celebs is now accessible to the rest of us —and for a reasonable price. While Botox and fillers differ from each other, both serve the purpose of minimizing imperfections on the skin. How It Works

Botox is an injectable that paralyzes certain facial muscles in order to prevent that area from moving. Some use Botox as a preventative measure in order to stop the muscles from continuously moving and creating that crease. Others use it to freeze the muscles that have already created a wrinkle. Fillers, on the other hand, do not serve the same purpose as Botox.

Fillers do exactly as the name implies. This type of injectable fills areas that have lost volume and plumpness. Fillers can be used in lips and cheeks to fill out areas that are in need of some volume. Angela Monterosso, M.S., PA-C | 79 Hudson Street, Hoboken

With Vivian, the spa’s nurse practitioner and cosmetic injector (with several years of experience), Attain are able to offer quite an array of trusted, tried, and true injectables to fit the needs of everyone who comes to the office. Not only does Attain offer Botox to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles, but it is a problem solver in other areas. Providers using Botox are able to target areas to reduce excessive sweating and help those who suffer from TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction — a condition within the jaw that causes pain and grinding of the teeth).

Injecting into those areas can be both cosmetically and medically beneficial to those who choose to do so. Additionally, owner Lauren Ben-Meir’s office offers fillers to plump and fill in the facial area. The spa typically uses fillers in the Juvéderm family but also loves to use Versa, a versatile and dynamic filler, especially for lips, and Bellotero for under-eye treatments. Specifically, on the topic of injectables, Dr. Park Avenue has a team of injectors (composed of MDs, PAs, and NPs) each with over 10 years of experience. The practice offers a wide variety of injectables for different uses.

For wrinkle correction, Botox and Xeomin are used. Both are easy, in-office procedures that require no downtime except avoiding excessive workouts for 24 hours. As for fillers, Dr. Park Avenue uses different types to meet the needs of each patient. Belotero is a filler used for lips and tear troughs (for those stubborn, dark under eyes). Tam, Downtown Medspa’s registered nurse, and Allergan trained professional (the pharma company that produces products like Juvéderm + Botox) is the office’s injector. She stresses the importance of creating a personalized plan for each client because no two individuals have the same needs. At the office, she is able to treat the face with Botox and fillers to create the desired outcome.

“Botox is a preventative treatment, which is why it is so important to treat areas early,” explained Tam. “When you wait too long, lines can become deeper and more difficult to treat.” As for fillers, Downtown Medspa offers Juvéderm for different needs. Juvéderm Ultra is great for the nasolabial (the area from the nose to the mouth), marionette (the creases next to the corners of the mouth), and smile lines. She uses Juvéderm Voluma to fill the cheek areas, Juvéderm Volbella for the lips, and Juvéderm Ultra for the lines around the mouth. “Ultra is the workhorse that can really be used anywhere.”

Botox and fillers are cost-effective, noninvasive ways to bring back volume and reduce wrinkles. Tam will work with each person to determine which areas need treatment and which injectable. For Botox, the first area treated will cost $250 and $200 for any subsequent area. Clients also have the option to prepay for Botox at a discount (100 units for $1199). Just a rule of thumb, Allergan protocol calls for up to 20 units per area, while most clients need anywhere from 10-20, depending on the skin.
