This New Chin and Jaw-Enhancing Filler Has Guys Talking

Another year, another beauty trend, except this one’s got men in mind. Introducing Volux: the latest (and arguably greatest) FDA-approved dermal filler to specifically treat weak jawlines and chins.

An extension of the Juvederm family (which already includes Volbella, Ultra, Ultra Plus, Vollure, and Voluma), the hyaluronic acid-based injectable was designed to accentuate a more masculine appearance with its most “cohesive” and “strongest lifting” iteration yet.

“Men are coming into the office more and more for filler, as well as Botox Cosmetic,” reveals world-renowned plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer of Shafer Clinic Fifth Avenue. “For the last several years, people have been staring at their face on Zoom and looking at their jawline and chin. Now they are looking for treatment.”

“Volux adds another tool for injectors to customize full face correction for facial aging and augmentation,” he adds.

As one of the first physicians to receive and administer Volux, Shafer is a certified expert in its use. We tapped into his knowledge for a complete breakdown of the product that will surely be an industry gamechanger.

What Makes Volux Different From Other Types of Juvederm?

While the aforementioned five types of Juvederm have been manufactured to treat different issues (i.e. Ultra and Volbella for lips), Volux will be the first of its kind to target the chin and jawline specifically. (Voluma, like Volux, is thicker and has, up until this point, been used to enhance and augment chins and jawlines, but it also works to plump cheeks and temples).

“The advantage of Volux is its high cohesiveness and lifting power,” says Shafer. “It is magnitudes stronger than the other Juvederm products.”

In fact, the filler is said to feel almost “bone-like,” melding to the natural anatomy and contours of your face by providing an extra hard layer.

This also means a longer lasting time so that patients can enjoy the results for months beyond what they’re typically used to.

“The studies showed at least one year duration,” shares Shafer. “However, based on my experience with Voluma, I would expect closer to the two-year mark, as well.”

“That doesn’t mean you only need to get the injections every two years, but that there is possibly some clinical effect for that duration,” he adds, noting that the frequency depends on how quickly the patient metabolizes the substance over time.

Will Volux Be More Expensive?

Of course, everything good in life comes with a price. While injectables, at least at the onset, are significantly less expensive than more long-term solutions (i.e. surgeries and implants), rounds of treatments can cost you a pretty penny.

“Volux is a premium product like Voluma and I would expect premium pricing for Volux across the board,” says Shafer, but is quick to reiterate that nothing is more important than picking an injectable based on “experience and results” and not on cost.

Taking shortcuts can lead to unhappy outcomes, which then means you risk paying for something that you don’t like altogether. It’s essential to find a doctor you can trust and have him or her provide honest recommendations that are tailored towards your unique facial structure and desired aesthetic. In other words, listen to the medical professionals and don’t skimp or cut corners when it comes to your face.

Is Volux Reversible Like Other Fillers?

The beauty of Volux, unlike permanent implants or irreversible surgeries, is that it is completely reversible like all other Juvederm products.

“They are all ‘meltable’ with hyaluronidase injections,” explains Shafer. “This gives an added level of comfort for the injector and the patient knowing that the product can be dissolved, if needed, for any reason.”

That said, it may be in your best interest to have your doctor start conservatively. You can always add more as the treatment continues, but keep immediate swelling in mind — it can take up to a month before seeing final results.

When Will Volux Be Available?

While the injectable has officially hit the market, it is currently only available at select dermatologist and plastic surgeon offices around the country. Nationwide distribution is expected in January 2023, just in time to play into the sentiment of “new year, new me.”
