When it comes to in-office treatments, body-sculpting options have become increasingly popular—and for good reason. So many of us struggle to trim away stubborn pockets of fat, even with a healthy diet and dedicated exercise routine. So to have the ability to achieve your aesthetic goals without putting in even more hours at the gym sounds quite nice.

While there’s plenty of body-contouring treatments available to choose from, one option has captivated us recently: EON, an FDA-cleared robotic laser device for abdominal fat reduction. The best part? It’s completely touchless.

EON uses a robotic arm to emit laser energy that kills fat cells within a specific body area. “Fat is heated to its melting point while a cooling blast of air is used concurrently to maintain optimal skin temperature in order to avoid burns,” explains Lone Tree, CO plastic surgeon Gregory Buford, MD. “This combination not only reduces fat but also eliminates the risk of superficial burns.”

Post-treatment, these destroyed fat cells are expelled through the body’s lymphatic system over the next few months, leading to a more contoured physique.

A typical appointment for EON is painless and utilizes zero gels or applicators. First, the machine scans and maps the patient’s body. Then, the robot arm moves along the body, emitting heat that kills the fat cells.

“Depending on the surface area being treated, sessions generally last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, during which patients relax—and often fall asleep—while the laser does its work,” says Dr. Buford.

The number of treatments necessary is dependent on the amount of fat you are trying to melt and the goals of each specific patient. Post-procedure, downtime is virtually nonexistent and aftercare for this treatment is very minimal. “The only thing we recommend to our patients is to stay hydrated to help the process of fat elimination following treatment, but even this is not necessarily proven,” explains Dr. Buford. “Our patients love the fact that they don’t need to wear compression garments, avoid exercise, or experience any downtime following their sessions.”

As with any elective cosmetic procedure, realistic expectations are essential. “Candidates who present with realistic goals regarding their outcomes are obviously the happiest patients,” explains Dr. Buford. “Those expecting a surgical result should be counseled that EON, like all other non-surgical devices, is just that—non-surgical.”

That being said, the results are still rather impressive. Clinical studies have found an average of 21.6% fat reduction in patients, with larger fat loss achieved after multiple treatment sessions. So, while EON won’t deliver a surgical result, it will create quite an impressive difference, making it certainly worth asking your doctor about.
