The Oscar stars having Botox jabs… in their feet: LA’s top plastic surgeons deal with soaring demand to inject cushioning foot fillers allowing stars to navigate the 900ft red carpet

  • Two years of Covid have left many in agony from the return of towering heels
  • Plastic surgeons have come to the rescue, injecting padding into stars’ feet
  • Injections include the filler Juvederm for padding and Botox for pain relief

When Hollywood’s A-listers take to the red carpet at the Oscars tonight, they’ll be putting their best feet forward – quite literally.

Ahead of this year’s ceremony, while Beverly Hills’ army of plastic surgeons have been hard at work eliminating frown lines and plumping up brows and lips, they have also been dealing with soaring demand for Botox in a rather more unusual part of the body.

Strange as it may sound, two years of Covid have left many of Tinseltown’s finest in agony from the sharp return of towering heels.

And now LA’s top plastic surgeons have come to the rescue, injecting padding into stars’ feet to allow them to navigate the 900ft red carpet outside the city’s Dolby Theatre in comfort.

Last night, Dr Ava Shamban, whose clients reportedly include Nicole Kidman, Angela Bassett and Kris Kardashian, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘These leading ladies are not going to the theatre.

‘This is the equivalent of a three-hour walk around a city block, stopping and standing for interviews, with little more than a thin red carpet between a hardbottomed shoe and cement.

‘Cushioning foot filler injections can alleviate the pain. ‘We’re talking leading ladies and leading legs on the biggest night of the Hollywood year.’

Injections include the filler Juvederm for padding in the ball of the foot and Botox for pain relief and to relieve ‘excessive sweating’.

One Hollywood star admitted to having the treatment, and added: ‘Everyone I know is doing it. Like every other woman in the world I’ve kept up with Botox and fillers in my face.

‘Actually, I’ve done more since the pandemic because all those Zoom calls made me realise how bad my face looked and then we had the joy of face masks to cover up “little improvements”.

‘Awards season started and I had to cram my feet into heels for the first time in ages. I’ve been wearing flip-flops and Uggs for the past two years. I managed a couple of events but I was in agony. Talk about a sharp reintroduction into the real world. It hurt like hell.

‘So, yes, I asked my plastic surgeon what he could do. And the answer was Juvederm in the balls of my feet and Botox for pain. It’s amazing.’

Dr Shamban says the price for ‘foot padding’ can range between £1,500 and £2,500 ‘depending on how much and what is injected’.

She explained: ‘The procedure involves injecting high density, longer-lasting hyaluronic acid filler under the skin.

‘Hyaluronic gel is a clear, viscous or almost gooey substance that is naturally produced in our body.

‘It helps keep us spongey and dewy.

‘But as we age, we lose fat and volume in all areas of our body. In our face, that causes hollows in the cheeks and under the eyes. In our feet, however, we lose padding – with painful results.’
