Zulal Wellness Resort, Qatar

The end of March will mark the official debut of the new Qatar wellbeing enclave, Zulal Wellness Resort, by renowned wellness pioneer Chiva-Som. As well we being Qatar’s largest wellness destination, Zulal—which in Arabic means ‘pure natural water’—is the world’s first contemporary center for Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine (TAIM) and the Middle Eastern country’s first family wellness concept. The sprawling retreat sits on the private Khasooma coast in the north of Qatar. This remote resort is split into two distinct concepts: the adults-only Zulal Serenity and more family-focused Zulal Discovery. Services and treatments based on Arabic and Islamic wellness principles highlight ingredients that are indigenous to this region with the overall emphasis placed on restoring life balance through herbal medicines and spiritual therapies along with dietary and mind-body practices.

Nutrition, fitness, spa, physiotherapy, holistic health and aesthetics make up the six pillars defining the overall wellbeing experience. With Zulal Serenity, guests staying in 60 rooms and suites, and taking part in one of seven programs, have access to extensive wellness facilities including thermal and hydrotherapy suites, indoor and outdoor pools, a gym and exercise studios, a physiotherapy center and aesthetics center. Catering for families, Zulal Discovery then encompasses 120 rooms and suites alongside facilities designed by child and family specialists to bring families together. Programs focus on teaching children the value of healthy living with activities including outdoor exploration and arts and crafts. Completing the experience, the resort’s restaurants offer Arabic, Mediterranean and fine dining options, with cooking classes also provided.

COMO Shambhala Retreat, Italy

COMO Shambhala Retreat made its debut at COMO Castello Del Nero last year as the first Asian-inspired wellbeing experience in Tuscany. This new retreat brings COMO Shambhala’s signature combination of wellness experts, targeted treatments and COMO Shambhala cuisine to the historic 740-acre estate. The wellbeing sanctuary spanning 1,000 sq m is home to seven luxurious treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art gym, relaxation areas with views over the Tuscan landscape, light-filled yoga and Pilates studios, thermal suites, a heated outdoor pool, two tennis courts and an outdoor fitness area named the Forest Gym. The overall space is designed by Milanese designer Paola Navone.

The wellbeing concept’s signature therapies use COMO’s bespoke blended oils along with ingredients sourced from the estate. These therapies include the full-body COMO Shambhala Signature Ritual using Tuscan lavender and olive oil that’s been made on the estate. Non-surgical, anti-aging facial treatments are offered in collaboration with Guinot and COMO Shambhala experts in yoga, Pilates and fitness are on hand to help guests improve mobility and strength. The retreat’s treatments and facilities are complemented by COMO Shambhala Cuisine in which dishes are curated to aid concentration, balance blood sugar levels and nourish the soul. Away from the new retreat, guests can make the most of being based at this resort known for its gardens, vineyards, olive groves and overall culinary experience.

Palazzo Fiuggi, Italy

Also launched in 2021, Palazzo Fiuggi Wellness Medical Retreat combines years of scientific and medical research in maximising health and wellbeing with the benefits of being in this hilltop setting that has been known for its healing waters since the early 14th century. Assessments and consultations define each guest’s bespoke program of treatments and holistic therapies, with the culinary offering then devised by three-Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck in partnership with the retreat’s experts and made using biodynamic natural ingredients. Facilities across the 6,000-sq-m wellness spa using Fiuggi waters include Thalassotherapy pools and Turkish baths. Targeted retreats then range from the Deep Detox to Immuno Boost.

In May 2022, the retreat will also play host to the first permanent international program by The Ranch Malibu. This program combines The Ranch Malibu’s own wellbeing concept with the services and expertise of Palazzo Fiuggi. Within the 20-acre private park, located around 50 minutes from Rome, guests will be able to join week-long programs that mirror The Ranch Malibu experience, integrating morning mountain hikes, afternoon strength and core training classes, yoga, daily massage and a plant-based diet, as well as consultations. With outdoor exploration included in the program, guests are given an introduction to the scenic Apennine Mountains surrounding the Lazio region.
