Sienna Miller’s longtime makeup artist Wendy Rowe does beauty a little differently. The former artistic consultant for Burberry, who fell for Miller when first booked to do her glam for the Tony Awards a decade ago, paints the star’s eyes first. “I like to be messy,” she says with the kind of mischievous smile that lets you know Wendy and Sienna have a blast getting ready together. Then comes the contouring and blush, which Rowe buffs and blends before applying glow-enhancing foundation. That way, she explains, it’s possible to sculpt the face while maintaining a light touch. For Rowe, it’s essential that she can stand back and not see the makeup she has applied. Sienna, too, loves this sense of effortlessness.

“I’m hyper, but she’s also hyper,” says Rowe of their sessions together, which prioritize catching up and vibing off one another over nitty-gritty makeup details. A level of trust means that whatever references are thrown back and forth—“ethereal elfin queen”? Yep, Rowe gets it—they are on the same wavelength. “It’s always 100 miles per hour, but we don’t have to mood board because we just get it and concepts change as we go along,” she adds.

The products: Rowe’s previous development role at Burberry means she perfected the best blendable foundation formulas long ago. Hers are lightweight but not sheer, glowy without being shiny, and, most importantly, easy to work with. Gucci Westman’s blending sticks are another tool Rowe relies on to tailor her looks. “Doing makeup on celebrities is like fitting a couture dress, it has to be fitted to the person,” notes Wendy. “It’s about understanding what works best for each face—it’s not one size fits all.”

Sienna, she shares, is unique because the actor is “not worried about looking a certain way all the time—she sees beauty in lots of different forms, not just sexy or glam or obvious”. Her natural radiance means she can pull off everything and, from bleached brows to feathered lashes, it “always works out.”

After 10 years, Wendy has got Sienna’s skin prep down to 15 minutes. Five are taken up with cleansing, exfoliating, lymphatic drainage, and massage before a 111 Skin mask takes care of hydrating for the final 10. Rowe tries out all the biggest skincare launches and facialist treatments so her busy client doesn’t lose precious free time experimenting with fads that don’t work. “It’s all in the prep,” asserts Rowe. “And not overloading.”
