Panelist of the British talk show “Loose Women” Carol McGiffin surprised fans as she showed her filler-filled selfie. The 62-year-old radio and television broadcaster, along with other stars, debated the requirement of prescriptions for lip fillers on Thursday. Calling the photo fake, McGiffin said she wanted to share what she would have looked like if she had gone full out on filler injections.

The rampant use of fillers and the recent calls for regulations on the use of fillers prompted the debate. To prove her point, Carol clicked an ordinary selfie and then changed it using Instagram face filters to show the use of fillers.

In the selfie, Carol is shown sporting plump cheeks and a big pout, making her look unrecognizable. She admitted that she found her look disturbing.

Talking about fillers, McGiffin also revealed her experience of undergoing cosmetic surgery. She told the other panelists that she had undergone a facelift treatment but hadn’t indulged in other filler treatments as her fake picture depicted. She said that she added filters to her image with the help of a friend to find out what she would look like if she had filler injections. She confessed that they went too far in using filters, which was disturbing.

She opined that fillers should be regulated. There should be limitations on age and frequent consultations to ensure that people don’t have dysmorphia. She said there is a lifetime cost of investing in cosmetic treatments to look a certain way, and if the treatment fails, the repercussions might be severe. She said that if one cannot afford to continue the treatment later on and then discover a wrinkle, it can affect them mentally.

Other panelists who debated using fillers included 42-year-old Charlene White, 64-year-old Denise Welch and 38-year-old Katie Piper.

The debate on fillers started after the UK Health and Social Care Committee stated that dermal fillers should only be allowed when prescribed, like Botox.

The committee also proposed the minimum training standards before using fillers. Currently, England prohibits minors from injecting or using Botox or dermal fillers for cosmetic use.
