L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Retinol Night Cream review: £28 cream that gave our testers ‘Botox-like’ results

Nowadays there is seemingly no shortage of smart skincare launches promising miraculous-sounding results, from turning back the clock on signs of ageing to delivering a glow like that from a professional facial.

So when we heard about the new L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Retinol + Niacinamide Pressed Night Cream, £27.99 here, which promises anti-ageing results after just 10 nights, we admit we thought this sounded too good to be true.

It brings together two skin superstars – retinol and niacinamide – into one night cream for turbo-charged results. Considered the gold standard in skincare, retinol (a derivative of vitamin A) boosts cell turnover and collagen production, while niacinamide – aka vitamin B3 – has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Combined, this cream promises to gently but effectively reduce wrinkles and even skin tone in just 10 nights.

L’Oreal’s new retinol night cream claims to deliver speedy results

To put this claim to the test, we sent the L’Oréal cream out to 41 of our Beauty Edit testers and asked them to record any changes in their skin, both after 10 days and after four weeks of using it.

And the results were impressive. Aside from a handful of people who experienced a slight retinol reaction (see below for how to avoid this), nearly three-quarters of testers saw an anti-ageing result after just 10 nights, and 85% rated it either four or five stars for skin rejuvenation after a month, with visible improvements in fine lines, firmness and skin tone.

Many even received compliments from partners and friends on how good their skin was looking. One tester was even asked if she’d had Botox, with another remarking that she’d been considering booking in for the anti-wrinkle injection but was subsequently told she didn’t need it after using this cream.

It should be noted that, as with any retinol product, it’s important to read the instructions on the box carefully before using this face cream. If you’re new to using retinol, build up your tolerance gradually and always use an SPF30+ in the mornings, as it can make skin more sensitive to the sun.

Retinol is an excellent anti-ageing ingredient, but start by introducing it gradually into your skincare routine

“Lovely cream with an easy-to-use applicator that gives just the right amount for your face. After using it for 10 nights I noticed a considerable difference in my skin – it looked smoother and more even. After a month, my skin generally just looked a little bit younger – more toned, not so tired, and wrinkles look a lot smoother. My best friend said I looked well and asked if I’d changed my face cream.” Adele, Dorset

“I love the press-and-pump dispenser – it gives out just the right amount and is very hygienic. After about day five I really noticed a difference – lines looked reduced, and my skin felt refreshed and plumper in the morning. I also have some pigmentation which has definitely faded, which I’m very happy about. I was considering Botox for the fine lines around my eye area, but since using this cream I was told that I don’t need it. A friend also said that my skin looks so healthy and hydrated. Five stars all the way!” Carrilee, Co Down

“This is fabulous! It sinks right into the skin and leaves it feeling soft and comforted. I’m in my early 40s and fine lines had started appearing, which were knocking my self confidence. I noticed results after 10 nights and after using this for a month, my lines are less noticeable, especially around my eye area, and my skin looks brighter and more hydrated. My husband said my face looked smoother and glowing. It’s a little pot of magic.” Claire, West Yorkshire

“My skin felt fantastic in the morning after using this – so smooth. After 10 nights my fine lines appeared reduced and my skin tone looked more balanced. After using it for a month, I noticed my skin felt firmer and smoother, and looked less tired in the morning. Someone told me that my skin looked great, and they thought I’d had Botox! This cream will be a regular part of my skincare regime from now on.” Louise, Stoke-on-Trent

“This cream absorbed with ease, and my skin felt amazing the following day – really hydrated. I got great results overall from using this – after 10 nights my skin looked smoother and wrinkles were less noticeable, and after using this for a month my skin looked more rested and radiant, and the tone more even. My mother said I was glowing and my skin looked healthy. I am an absolute convert and will be purchasing this in the future.” Kuljit, Essex
