Local doctor uses natural enzyme to break down fat, create six-packs

Imagine getting six-pack abs with just five to ten minutes of work. It’s possible with a popular fat killer that’s been used on things like a “double chin” for years. The product is called Kybella, an injectable treatment that destroys fat cells. Dr. Elizabeth Muennich of Dermatology and Skin Care Associates of Mason shared with us how it works.”Now that we’re very comfortable using it under the skin to melt the turkey gobbler, we’ve been using it off-label to melt anything on the body from lipomas to bra fat to cankles,” Dr. Muennich said.Kybella is an enzyme naturally made by the liver, secreted by the gallbladder to break down fat. The enzyme allows Dr. Muennich to sculpt six-pack abs.Nathan Weir works in the office, but this time, he took on the role of patient for the simple and quick procedure.”He’s got a four-pack. And then we’re going to work on two,” Dr. Muennich said referring to Weir’s body. “There’s a little bit of fullness right there and we’re going to contour that.” Dr. Muennich said they have genetically engineered the fat dissolver and purified it so they can inject it safely. The product then locally dissolves fat. After prepping the syringes and marking off target areas on Weir’s mid section, it’s almost like a game of connect the dots with a needle. Weir said the process is not painful.”It’s getting a little tight now, but not too bad. The injections don’t feel too bad. It feels like I’ve done a bunch of crunches basically,” Weir said.Dr. Muennich said what’s great about the treatment is that it’s not a temporary fix. “This is permanent! Which is fantastic, so once those fat cells are gone, they’re gone,” Dr. Muennich said.Dr. Muennich says it takes two to three weeks before you get the results you want. Dr. Muennich does warn, like liposuction, you eliminate fat cells for good. If you put on a lot of weight, neighboring fat cells can get larger. The doctor used three full syringes on Weir, which would cost about $1,200.

Imagine getting six-pack abs with just five to ten minutes of work. It’s possible with a popular fat killer that’s been used on things like a “double chin” for years.

The product is called Kybella, an injectable treatment that destroys fat cells. Dr. Elizabeth Muennich of Dermatology and Skin Care Associates of Mason shared with us how it works.

“Now that we’re very comfortable using it under the skin to melt the turkey gobbler, we’ve been using it off-label to melt anything on the body from lipomas to bra fat to cankles,” Dr. Muennich said.

Kybella is an enzyme naturally made by the liver, secreted by the gallbladder to break down fat. The enzyme allows Dr. Muennich to sculpt six-pack abs.

Nathan Weir works in the office, but this time, he took on the role of patient for the simple and quick procedure.

“He’s got a four-pack. And then we’re going to work on two,” Dr. Muennich said referring to Weir’s body. “There’s a little bit of fullness right there and we’re going to contour that.”

Dr. Muennich said they have genetically engineered the fat dissolver and purified it so they can inject it safely. The product then locally dissolves fat.

After prepping the syringes and marking off target areas on Weir’s mid section, it’s almost like a game of connect the dots with a needle. Weir said the process is not painful.

“It’s getting a little tight now, but not too bad. The injections don’t feel too bad. It feels like I’ve done a bunch of crunches basically,” Weir said.
