Kaia Gerber Swears By This Skin Care Ingredient

If you’ve ever wondered how Kaia Gerber keeps skin her skin glowing, she credits only one ingredient for it: Niacinamide.

Kaia shared her love for niacinamide in a new interview with British Vogue, saying of her skincare routine, “I like to keep it super simple with my skin – I feel like less is more. I always wash my face. Even if I’m not wearing make-up, I have to wash my face! I am also a huge advocate of niacinamide, so that’s what I use.”

You’ve likely seen this buzzy ingredient in skin care before but what is niacinamide? Niacinamide is another name for vitamin B3. Your body doesn’t produce it on its own, so you need to supplement to see results. Niacinamide is known for its brightening effects and has become a popular skin care ingredient because of its glow-getting, spot-reducing benefits. If taken orally, it can help reduce acne. According to Byrdie, who spoke with two dermatologists about niacinamide, it’s also recommended for those with sensitive skin. Basically, it’s a wonder ingredient, and we can see why it’s one of Kaia’s faves!

Multiple products on the market include niacinamide and, thankfully for us, there are options at pretty much every price point for both face and body.

Aside from skin care, Kaia revealed she has also been into hair care lately. During quarantine, she’s chopped, gone blonde, and gone pink. “It’s funny because it’s only been in the last six months that I decided to mess with my hair so much. Finally, we’re back to – sort of – normal,” she said. “My favorite was pink, because [going pink] was a pipe dream that I always had. I knew as a brunette I could never have pink hair without bleaching it, [so when I did bleach it] that was my excuse to have pink hair for a little bit. I definitely appreciate my natural hair color and texture a lot more than I did before.”

Because of all her hair experimentation, Kaia now knows the power of a good conditioner. “I’m a big believer in a good conditioner, especially because I damaged my hair so much from bleaching it.” Kaia didn’t name the conditioner she uses, but it’s a shea butter product recommended by a hairstylist. “I always trust their opinion more than anyone else’s, because they’re the ones that deal with my hair. It’s really helped with the damage [from bleach].”
