The former king Juan Carlos spent more than €95,000 at a Barcelona clinic specialising in anti-ageing treatments, paying with money from a Mexican tycoon.

The payments were revealed in an investigation into income which Juan Carlos, 84, failed to declare to the tax authorities. Prosecutors decided to shelve an inquiry into the affair, citing insufficient evidence.

Juan Carlos had treatment at the DeSanchez Clinic in Barcelona from Manuel Sanchez, a plastic surgeon. In 2019 the former king was photographed visiting the clinic for “routine tests”, Europa Press reported. The clinic offers Botox injections, implants and treatment for saggy skin.
