With the CDC recommending combining a cloth mask with a medical mask for maximum COVID-19 protection, designers from L.A. to Italy, including Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton and Trina Turk, are offering fashionable options.
Face coverings continue to top the list of must-have accessories for 2021, especially with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Feb. 10 recommendation to combine a cloth mask with a medical mask for maximum COVID-19 protection.
MSNBC’s Tiffany Cross, Kerry Washington, inaugural poet Amanda Gorman, and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg are among the names who have worn double masks recently. Washington tweeted on Feb. 3, “I’ve been rocking the two masks (and a face shield!) while directing @insecurehbo. And it’s the WAY TO GO! #twomasksisbetterthanone.”
Cross, host of MSNBC’s The Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross, tells THR, “Wearing two masks not only limits the travel of my own aerosol, it also provides an extra filter for what I’m inhaling. I don’t see a lot of people during this pandemic but for the few people I do encounter — from the crew in the studio to grocery store staff — I want to treat their health with the same precious delicateness I treat my own. Also, I live in Washington, DC ,and the city is very scenic so I love to walk miles at a time. The winter months bring some cold weather, so a double mask is great for keeping my face warm as well.”
