In today’s fast-paced work environment where professionals are working 5000+ hours a year, conducting rigorous workouts and handling family and social life; the time to switch-off and recover is something we all need to pay attention to. Now, more than ever, we spend so much time plugged into tech that our skin can become drawn-out looking. In addition, we are competing to use our downtime to push our physical limits to the maximum. When does it all end? Now. I can assure you as a day is long, that the time you take to care for your wardrobe and your grooming —will be a reward that you give yourself (each day) for all your hard work and honored achievements. Good facial, grooming and wardrobe all play an important role in the rise of corporate ascension. I will present this proven data over the next few weeks within my features.
At this juncture, an overwhelmingly number of meetings are taking place online. My goal is to be a pioneer in understanding and addressing personal care needs. I would like my viewers to be aware of the importance of curating a range of products and services from hair, skin, shave and body essentials to enhance a healthy lifestyle, and positive attitude at the workplace both online and offline. In short, new products and services are designed for quality and versatility to provide today’s American workforce everything they need to confidently be who they are and achieve their desired goals.
Over the next few weeks I plan to report on beauty, grooming, facial and body procedures and wardrobe — all with a laser focus on dressing for corporate ascension. You see, due to COVID-19, every industry has been mandated to change old patterns. Industry had to comply. This is where science technology kick-in to help create and shape the future of what will be. There is no need to fear, just a little adjustment here and there to set us straight for the new frontier ahead.
I always feel self-conscious when I report on the importance of facial procedures for the office because at my age, I often wonder if my viewers will think I am writing a feature because I was offered a procedure. This is not the case. I have researched extensively the positive effects that facial and body enhancements can do for working professionals. Moreover, I will be happy to report my findings over the next few weeks as we set the wheels in motion to start working in the fall season.
I recently had the time to meet with Dr. Michele Green to discuss the importance of having fresh healthy skin at the office, the increasing number of male patients and how COVID-19 has changed the ideology of a fresh and healthy look —and its growing importance of the positive effects with respect to corporate ascension.
Joseph DeAcetis: Talk to Forbes about the importance having fresh healthy skin at the office and the effects for corporate ascension?
Michele Green: More than ever, people want to look healthy and refreshed, especially at work. As the phrase “dress for success” implies, it is important to look successful as well. This same philosophy transcends to a person’s skin and the health of their skin. A good fresh look gives you added confidence and in a better position for success. Appearance is important in business, and having a groomed, fresh look which includes your skin, radiates confidence.
Having a good fresh look implies that you are knowledgeable, and successful. Your look can leave a lasting impression on new clients and allow you to better represent yourself and your organization. It is a very competitive marketplace, and we live in a youth-oriented society. Looking rejuvenated becomes important both with daily interactions, meeting over Zoom conferences, and other social media platforms. Patients want to look their best at any age, and having healthy younger looking skin, allows you to feel your best and increase your self- confidence.
Joseph DeAcetis: How has the ratio between male and female patients transitions over the last few years?
Michele Green: There are an increasing number of male patients in my office over the last five years and I would expect that number to only increase. Each year, more male patients are coming to my office for hair growth treatments like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Botox and dermal fillers for fine lines and wrinkles, Coolsculpting for “fat freezing”, and the Thermage skin tightening laser. All of these procedures appeal to my male patients since they have no recovery time and are extremely effective.
More men than ever are also taking better care of their skin. They are coming into my NYC office for hydrafacials for skin exfoliation and microneedling treatments with the Dermapen to improve both the tone and texture of their skin. Both of these skin treatments rejuvenate the skin and simulate new collagen production, with instant results and no recovery time. These cosmetic skin treatments have a great deal of appeal since they are extremely effective and you don’t need to “hide out” after your procedure, since your skin is glowing immediately after your treatment.
Men are also self-conscious of their necks and commonly consult with me for to treat their “double chins”. I generally use a combination of Coolsculpting with the Coolmini applicator, to treat the submental chin fat, and Kybella injections to further permanently reduce the remaining fat cells after Coolsculpting. If there is any skin laxity in the jowls and neck, I tighten up the skin with the Thermage skin tightening laser. Since these procedures have minimal or no downtime, patients can be treated and can return to their busy day immediately after treatment.
Joseph DeAcetis: What do you recommend after getting beautified? Nutrition? Sleep? Lifestyle?
Michele Green: Proper nutrition, eating whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruit, and staying away from processed foods and refined sugars is the key to overall good health and skin. Cigarettes, vaping, alcohol, and sun exposure all cause increased damage to your skin.
Maintaining a good sleep cycle is very important to your overall health and the health of your skin. Your body has circadian rhythms that need to be maintained for the best health. Stress, fatigue and lack of sleep, all affect both your heath and your skin.
Exercise is very important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The endorphins released will have positive effects on your health and your skin. Whether it be swimming, yoga, pilates, or aerobics, exercising is essential to your overall health.
Joseph DeAcetis: How has COVID-19 changed in your opinion, the ideology of a fresh and healthy look ?
Michele Green: What is so interesting after quarantine is that my patients want a more natural look, even more than ever. Many patients have decided not to have their hair colored, but are returning immediately to my office for their Botox and dermal fillers. The desire to look better and healthier has definitely brought patients back into my NYC office as soon as we re-opened in June. Since my aesthetic for injections has always been an extremely natural and “less is more” approach, patients leave looking rejuvenated without looking artificial, and feel better after being in quarantine for over 3 months.
Joseph DeAcetis: Talk to Forbes viewers about what to avoid if you want to keep a healthy and young look?
Michele Green: The three worst things you can do for your skin is excessive smoking, sun exposure, and alcohol. Each alone ages your skin, and the combination of these 3 can make your skin age. Sun exposure causes thinning of the skin, fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Cigarette smoking exacerbates these side effects discolors the skin. In addition, excess alcohol dehydrates and causes premature aging of your skin.
Joseph DeAcetis: What is your favorite treatment to perform and why?
Michele Green: It is very difficult to pick my one favorite treatment in my office. If I had to choose it would be a combination of a “liquid facelift”, Thermage for skin tightening, and Fraxel laser treatment for removing hyperpigmentation, and sun damage combined with the Vbeam laser for rosacea and facial redness.
A “liquid facelift” is a combination of Botox injections and dermal fillers such as Juvederm Voluma for cheek augmentation, Juvederm Ultra XC or Restylane Kysse for lip augmentation, and Sculptra injections for the deeper collagen framework of the face. The result is instant facial rejuvenation in single office visit.
Fraxel laser treatment is what I call “the magic eraser”, which removes all sun damage, brown spots, and hyperpigmentation, and discoloration with 2 to 3 treatment sessions. What I find to be very aging in patients, many times more than actual wrinkles, is the degree of sun damage on patients faces. Studies have showed that removing brown spots and age spots, makes patients look much younger and rejuvenated.
The Vbeam laser treatment is the gold standard for removing facial redness, rosacea, acne marks, broken blood vessels, and rosacea. By combining Fraxel laser treatment with the Vbeam laser, all of the redness, discoloration, and sun damage, can be removed and new younger looking, healthier skin is transformed.
Thermage is my favorite skin tightening laser. The new Thermage FLX, which is the third generation Thermage laser, works even better by having a larger spot size and creating more energy to tighten the skin, in less time, without any recovery time. Both my male and female patients come annually for Thermage. Thermage works through
radiofrequency (RF) heating of the dermal layer of the skin. By heating this deeper layer of the skin, and new collagen is produced, which makes the skin tighter, firmer, and rejuvenated.
Joseph DeAcetis: Talk to Forbes about the history, and development of your brand; and your personal background.
Michele Green: I completed my undergraduate degree from Yale in Near Eastern languages and literature but I have always fascinated by skin care and the field of dermatology. After completing my Chief Residency in Dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, I consulted with Cosmair for over five years and worked on new product formulations, reviewed claims, and the safety and testing of new products. In my NYC private cosmetic dermatology practice, I would suggest various products from different brands to my patients, since no one brand alone had all of the “right” products for each individual patient. After a short time in practice, my patients urged me to develop products which I could provide to them directly from my office; they didn’t want to shop in various places to get the best products for their particular skin.
With years of product formulation and development, I developed my own MGSKINLABS, Inc. line of products, which I distribute out of my New York private boutique dermatology practice. My product line incorporates the best anti-aging ingredients and are designed to be highly effective but gentle on your skin. Since many of my patients suffer from rosacea and pigmentation, many of my most popular products like my Vitamin C serum and Vitamin Infusion, address these skin concerns. Whether patients are looking for products for skin discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, or acne breakouts, I have a product which helps them with each of their specific skin care concerns.
Joseph DeAcetis: Talk to Forbes about Botox and Lip Augmentation. What is their importance and role in 2020 and why?
Michele Green: Botox and lip augmentation have increased in popularity every single year since I first started in private practice in the Upper East Side of NYC over two decades ago and will continue into 2021. The desire for facial rejuvenation with Botox and dermal fillers has grown, in part due to the general awareness of both its benefits and efficacy, but more importantly as a result of the great range of dermal fillers now on the market. Years ago, there was only one type of filler.
Now, more than 20 years later, there are different types of fillers, based on different thicknesses with many designed now for specific treatment areas of the face, such as the cheeks, nasolabial folds (smile lines), fine lines, and lips. With so many more products to choose from, I can combine different dermal fillers and layer them to provide the best cosmetic results. With my Botox patients, savvy patients want a softer look, with less wrinkles, without a “frozen” face, which was the initial fear of patients having Botox injections. These natural looking results now for facial rejuvenation with Botox and dermal fillers, like Juvederm Voluma and Sculptra, allow me to make patients look fresher, and younger-looking, without looking artificial. This is the artisty behind dermal fillers which gives a beautiful and refreshed look.
Similarly, with lip augmentation, with dermal fillers like Juvederm Ultra Plus and Restylane Kysse, I can control the size of the lip injections, and customized the results for my younger patients who may want a more Kylie Jenner look, and my more mature patients, who want a more subtle, rejuvenated look that hides fine lines and wrinkles, and restores lost volume.
Joseph DeAcetis: What are your thoughts on Coolsculpting and what are the ideal body parts to use it on?
Michele Green: Coolsculpting is an extremely effective and safe cosmetic procedure which I have been performing for over a decade in my NYC office. Coolsculpting works by the principle of cryolipolysis, where the fat cells are frozen and eliminated through the body’s own metabolism. With Coolsculpting, I am able to decrease a fat bulge by 25% in only 35 minutes. When I first started using Coolsculpting to freeze fat in my office, there was only a single applicator to treat the abdominal area. Currently, there are applicators for almost every area of the body, from the abdomen, flanks, banana roll, “double chin”, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, tops of knees, and bra fat.
One of the best things that I love about Coolsculpting is that you can customize the treatments to transform your body, since there is no “best” area to treat. Coolsculpting has evolved to treat multiple areas, and since there is no recovery time or discomfort, patients come during their lunch break and can return to work or the gym the same day. Coolsculpting is the best nonsurgical method of body contouring and one of the most popular procedures in my New York office.
