Police have arrested one man and three women under the suspicion of engaging in unlicensed medical practice and collaboration with unlicensed medical practitioners after botulism cases were reported following Botox treatment at beauty premises.

The police and the Center for Health Protection were following up on three probable cases of botulism involving victims who had received botulinum toxin injections at CC Beauty.

A male doctor, Tai Kong-sing, was among the arrested this morning. He was previously arrested for allegedly providing exemption certificates for Covid-19 jabs without holding medical consultations. He is currently out on bail.

The Center for Health Protection has set up an inquiry hotline for related botulism cases and urges those who have received Botox injections at CC Beauty to contact them if there are any signs of botulism such as drooping eyelids, double vision or blurred vision, problems with chewing, difficulties in swallowing or speaking.

“Botulinum toxin injections should only be performed by a locally registered doctor. Customers should understand the service provider’s identity and browse the list of registered medical practitioners of the Medical Council of Hong Kong as well as their professional qualifications and relevant experience,” a spokesperson for the Department of Health said.
