  • Drew Barrymore and Jamie Lee Curtis opened up about the pressure to look younger in a new interview.
  • Barrymore, 47, said aging is “safe and awesome.”
  • Curtis agreed.

When Drew Barrymore and Jamie Lee Curtis are in a room together, you can expect to hear some truth about aging. Both celebs have been outspoken about their resistance to getting procedures and fillers to maintain a youthful look, and in a recent segment on The Drew Barrymore Show, they doubled down on that sentiment.

Curtis began by sharing a stance she’s repeated across various interviews: that there’s a “genocide on natural beauty” and the pressure placed on women to to filter and augment their appearances is immense. Barrymore nodded in agreement.

“I’ve never messed with my face,” she said, to which Curtis replied frankly: “I can tell!”

Barrymore continued: “I don’t want to fight nature. I’m raising two daughters, and we were raised in an industry where it was desired to drink off the fountain of youth, and I just never subscribed to it. So I appreciate everything you said. And I think men just need to let women know aging is safe and awesome.”

The Flower Beauty founder, 47, has previously been candid about aging and never getting plastic surgery on her face. “I know myself. I’m a highly addictive person. I do one injection, I’m going to look like Jocelyn Wildenstein by Friday,” Barrymore said on her show last year. (Wildenstein is an American socialite known for having a number of cosmetic procedures.)

She did add the caveat of “never say never,” but seeing her Hollywood peers succumb to the pressure pretty much solidified her feelings about the trend. “I think because I’m so rebellious that I saw all of that pressure, and I saw all of those women torturing themselves to look a certain way and I thought, ‘You miserable people,’” she added. “I just never wanted to never be afraid of what life would do to me … I would love if there was some way we could let go and give in to the ride of life a little bit more.”

Curtis is in the same boat. Shortly before she and Barrymore had their pro-aging chat, she told Today her feelings about Botox. “I did plastic surgery,” the Halloween Ends actress said. “I put Botox in my head. Does Botox make the big wrinkle go away? Yes. But then you look like a plastic figurine.”
