Courteney Cox Reflects On Cosmetic Procedure Regrets

Courteney Cox is opening up about the ways she once tried to delay “looking older,” in a new interview with the UK’s Sunday Times Style. The star is getting candid about the realization that she was unhappy with changes that cosmetic treatments made to her face.

Now 57, Cox has been in the public eye since she landed a plum role in Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” music video when she was 20. Of course, her breakout role on Friends catapulted her acting career, and she has remained famous since the beloved sitcom’s decade-long run. Public scrutiny resulting from her fame made her feel pressured to to “chase” a more youthful appearance, she recalls to the Sunday Times.

“There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older.’ And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years,” she tells the publication. “And I didn’t realize that, oh sh*t, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.” (

Cox started to rethink the treatments after hearing what people said about her face. “People would talk about me, I think,” she says, adding, “There was a period where I went, ‘I’ve got to stop. That’s just crazy.'”

Cox has been open about her experiences with cosmetic procedures before. In a 2017 interview with New Beauty, she shared that she’d had all her fillers dissolved. She said she hadn’t realized in the moment how much the treatments had altered her appearance since the changes are so “gradual.” She said she began visiting multiple doctors who would offer “a little injection here or filler there,” adding, “The next thing you know, you’re layered and layered and layered. You have no idea because it’s gradual until you go, ‘Oh sh*t, this doesn’t look right.’ And it’s worse in pictures than in real life. I have one friend who was like, ‘Whoa, no more!’ I thought, I haven’t done anything in six months. I didn’t realize.” (

In a 2016 episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls, Cox reflected on her attempt to look young in hopes of living up to Hollywood’s beauty standards. “Getting older, I don’t think that’s the easiest thing. But I have learned lessons,” she said during the episode. “But I have learned lessons. I think I was trying to keep up with getting older and trying to chase that. It’s something you can’t keep up with.” (

Her new perspective on chasing youth is one of several lessons she’s learned over the years. “Time goes so fast,” she tells the Sunday Times. “There’s no question that I am more grounded; I’ve learnt so much in my life — what to enjoy, what to try to do more of and what to let go of.”
