2 nurse practitioners strive to create ‘comfort and beauty’ with new South Shore aesthetics center

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Nurse practitioners Jocelyn Padilla, 31, and Daphne Duran, 33, say it was heartbreaking to see the massive number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients suffer over the last two years.

For this reason, they wanted to use their skills to provide “a place of happiness, comfort and beauty” for the many women who were cooped up inside for so long.

“We opened at this time, because we knew how much the COVID pandemic impacted the spirits of those in our community. Daphne and I brainstormed a lot as we, and others, were confined to our homes. When COVID rates began to decline, we thought this was the time to open our business,” said Padilla, who with Duran, opened Juvenescense Aesthetics on March 1, 2022.

Padilla also works full-time at Staten Island University Hospital and Duran works at NYC Health + Hospitals performing COVID vaccination and testing in the community and is a clinical instructor for St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Bloomfield. As busy moms, they wanted to create a respite for other working mothers.

“Daphne and I were motivated to open our business in order to provide our community with a comfortable place to ask questions and provide consultations in a judgement-free zone,” said Padilla, a resident of Prince’s Bay.

“Having children of our own, and realizing the sacrifices parents often make, we wanted a business to give people joy, while at the same time creating a lifestyle and schedule to be able to fit our lives. Furthermore, working in the medical field, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was very difficult seeing the mortality the medical field often encompasses. Being able to create this aesthetics center, we leave our business knowing our work had a direct positive impact on our clients,” added Duran, a New Springville resident.

INSPIRATION TO SUCEED

As first-generation college graduates, Padilla and Duran said their biggest inspiration to open their own business is family.

“As young Hispanic women, and first-generation collegiate graduates, we hope to inspire and encourage the younger members of our families to pursue their dreams, and to demonstrate that goals are obtainable through dedication and hard work,” said Padilla.

“Importantly, our families and friends have also been, and continue to be, incredibly supportive of us. Aesthetics, and by extension our business, provides a sense of pleasure that directly correlates with positivity. The culture we have created in our office is friendly, usable and valuable, and we intend to keep our clients happy, healthy and confident,” she added.

SERVICES OFFERED

The most popular service offered at Juvenescense Aesthetics is lip augmentation, which is “a cosmetic procedure that results in fuller, plumper lips,” according to the business owners.

Other popular services are: Neurotoxin injections, which are also known as Botox or Dysport injections; vitamin B12 injections; Microneedling to treat a variety of skin conditions, such as acne scarring, wrinkles, enlarged pores and stretch marks; PRP [Platelet-Rich Plasma] treatments, and Lipotropic injections.

‘A MODEL FOR OTHERS’

Both Padilla and Duran became nurse practitioners knowing they would have the ability to work in multiple settings, including inpatient and outpatient services.

“Our dreams as advanced-care providers not only encompass inpatient care, but also that our business will be able to create professional opportunities, as well as become a model for others who share similar aspirations,” said Padilla.

“We take great pride knowing that our business is paving the way for other nurse practitioners, who can now independently practice in New York state, to pursue their own dreams, establish a business, and develop their own patient-provider relationships,” she added.
